Allison Williams, known for her role in "Girls," has finally achieved a goal a decade in the making: sharing the screen with Dave Franco. The pair star in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's "Regretting You," now streaming on Paramount+, and according to Williams, it almost didn't happen...multiple times.

In a recent interview, Williams confessed to People that she'd "always wanted to work with" Franco. It’s one of those Hollywood pairings that just feels right, you know? But as any actor will tell you, getting cast in something is only half the battle. Getting it actually made is a whole other story.
And their story is filled with near misses. "We've been cast in a bunch of things that never came to fruition over the last 10 years," Williams explained. Think of all the scripts that float around, all the table reads that happen, all the casting confirmations that never quite lead anywhere. It's a bit of a Hollywood ghost town of almost-was.
She elaborated further, saying they were attached to "movies that almost happened and then fell apart at the last second." Ouch. You can almost feel the frustration. So, landing this role in "Regretting You" must have felt like a major victory, not just another fleeting moment of "what if?"
Williams even went so far as to describe the eventual pairing as feeling like fate. I mean, after that many close calls, you'd almost have to believe in some kind of cosmic intervention, right? It's a testament to their persistence, and maybe a little bit of luck thrown in for good measure. It certainly makes for a better story, anyway.
Beyond Williams and Franco, the film also features Mason Thames. He plays Miller, a character who provides crucial support and affection to Clara, played by Williams, as she navigates a particularly turbulent period in her life. It's a great reminder that even in the midst of chaos, unexpected sources of joy and love can emerge. And sometimes, after years of waiting, dream collaborations finally do come to fruition. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to check out "Regretting You" – after all this build-up, I’m intrigued.
