Anadolu Efes suffered a humbling defeat on their home court last night, falling to Crvena Zvezda of Serbia by a score of 87-65 in a EuroLeague Round 19 matchup. It was a tough night for the Turkish side, who just couldn't seem to find their rhythm against a determined Zvezda team.
Anadolu Efes Crushed! Shocking Home Loss Stuns Fan...
The loss is a significant blow for Efes, marking their 13th defeat in the EuroLeague season. Meanwhile, Crvena Zvezda celebrated their 11th victory, a testament to their strong performance and strategic gameplay. The Serbian squad simply outhustled and outplayed Efes for much of the game, demonstrating superior teamwork and execution.
Early on, it looked like Efes might be able to control the game. They jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening five minutes, fueled by what seemed like an initial burst of energy. However, that momentum quickly evaporated. A decisive 11-0 run, spearheaded by a standout performance from Zvezda's Nwora, completely shifted the momentum. By the eighth minute, the visitors had surged ahead, establishing a six-point lead (8-14) and ultimately closing the first quarter with a 21-14 advantage. It was a sign of things to come, I suppose.
Efes attempted to claw their way back into the game in the second quarter, managing to reduce the deficit to just two points at 21-23. But Crvena Zvezda responded with impressive resilience. Capitalizing on an unsportsmanlike foul, they converted it into four crucial points. Coupled with Efes's struggles to convert their own shots, the visitors began to pull away. Nwora's three-pointer in the 16th minute extended their lead to 34-23. A particularly painful stretch for Efes saw them endure a scoring drought of over seven minutes, during which Crvena Zvezda unleashed a devastating 16-0 run, widening the gap to a commanding 20 points (23-43). The first half ended with Zvezda firmly in control, leading 43-25.
The second half offered little relief for the home crowd. Crvena Zvezda maintained their momentum, with Kalinic's four-point play further extending the lead to 24 points (27-51). Heading into the final quarter with a comfortable 25-point advantage (41-66), Zvezda never looked back. They cruised to an 87-65 victory, leaving Anadolu Efes searching for answers after a disappointing performance. It’s back to the drawing board, I imagine, for the Efes coaching staff.
