Copenhagen Test Season 2? Showrunners Address SHOCKING "Consent" Issues!
Movies & TV Series 28 December 2025

Okay, folks, so "The Copenhagen Test" has wrapped its first season, leaving viewers with a whole lot to chew on. This isn't your average spy thriller; we're talking mind-hacking, government conspiracies, and some seriously murky ethical waters. And apparently, behind the scenes, the showrunners were wrestling with some pretty heavy stuff themselves.

Copenhagen Test Season 2? Showrunners Address SHOC...

Creator Thomas Brandon sat down with Deadline recently, along with co-showrunner Jennifer Yale and executive producer James Wan, and the conversation got, well, interesting. They dove deep into the show's themes, particularly the thorny "consent issues" surrounding Simu Liu's character, Alexander Hale. You see, Hale's brain gets compromised, meaning anyone with access can essentially see everything he sees, knows everything he knows. Creepy, right?

Apparently, this led to some, shall we say, *spirited* debates in the writers' room. Brandon even revealed they axed a shower scene from the pilot because it just felt… wrong. "It was kind of a little too funny for the end of the pilot, but what it spoke to was this larger thematic [element] of your question, which is, here’s a guy who is now in his effort to prove to his country, 'I can be trusted,'" he explained. I mean, think about it – if your every thought and action is being monitored, even the simple act of showering becomes a loaded, uncomfortable scenario.

James Wan summed it up perfectly: "The whole time, obviously I’m thinking in my head, how does he go shower? Does he look down when he goes to the bathroom?" Yale’s response was both humorous and insightful, referencing a line in the show and her character turning off the light. It's this kind of attention to detail, this willingness to grapple with the implications of their own premise, that makes "The Copenhagen Test" so compelling, in my opinion.

But what about the future? Could we see a Season 2? Brandon says they're definitely thinking about it. "It was always designed as an ongoing series, so there’s plans and ideas and hopes for what a second season could be,” he teased. And maybe even a prequel exploring the origins of The Orphanage? He didn't rule it out.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the show is the mystery surrounding Michelle (Melissa Barrera). She hints at a dark past, and then, boom, her file gets burned. Is that the real Michelle we're seeing, or is she playing a part? Brandon's response is deliciously vague: "you never know if you’re getting the real her." Which, honestly, is exactly what I want from a spy thriller. Color me intrigued for what's next.
