Turkey's automotive industry is showing no signs of slowing down, posting impressive export figures for November, according to the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OIB). The sector, a perennial powerhouse of Turkish exports, generated a whopping $3.752 billion in exports last month. That's a solid 16% increase compared to November of last year. Not too shabby!
Auto Industry Exports Surge in November! What Will...
And the trend continues if you zoom out a bit. Between January and November, automotive exports have reached a staggering $37.765 billion. That represents a 12% jump compared to the same period last year. These numbers underscore just how vital the automotive sector is to the Turkish economy, accounting for a substantial 16.5% of Turkey's total export earnings.
Digging a bit deeper into the numbers, it's interesting to see which segments are driving the growth. While the "supply industry," which is the largest product group within the automotive sector, experienced a slight 1% dip in exports to $1.309 billion in November, other areas more than compensated. For example, exports of "passenger cars" rose by 8% to $1.230 billion. But the real story is the massive surge in "motor vehicles for the transport of goods," which saw a 64% increase to $644 million. Exports of "buses-minibuses-midibuses" also jumped significantly, rising by 45% to $342 million. And get this – "tractor" exports more than doubled, soaring by 101% to $182 million. Farmers must be upgrading their equipment! It just goes to show how varied the Turkish automotive export market is.
As for where all these vehicles are going, Germany remains the top destination, with exports soaring by an impressive 45% to $571 million in November. France comes in second, with a 30% increase and $512 million in exports. The United Kingdom takes the third spot, with exports climbing by 45% to $427 million. It is also significant that exports to European Union countries as a whole rose by 18% to $2.744 billion, demonstrating the importance of the EU market for Turkish automotive manufacturers.
Baran Çelik, Chairman of the Board of OIB, is understandably optimistic. "We have completed November with a strong increase. In the January-November period, we increased our exports to $37.765 billion," Çelik stated, adding that the industry is on track to finish the year as the country's leading export sector. "The results we have achieved have once again proven the strength and competitive structure of our industry throughout the world, especially in our main markets, Germany and the United Kingdom." So, it appears the road ahead is still paved with success for Turkey's automotive industry.
