Coast Guard Chopper STRIKES! $300M Cocaine Bust Caught on Camera!
Current Affairs 07 December 2025

Alright, folks, the U.S. Coast Guard just pulled off a seriously impressive drug bust. We're talking about a whopping 20,000 pounds of cocaine taken off the streets, thanks to some seriously sharp shooting and coordinated teamwork. This wasn't just your average seizure; this involved disabling a "go-fast" boat – those speed demons favored by drug runners – with sniper fire from a helicopter. Pretty wild stuff.

The whole operation went down in the Eastern Pacific, south of Mexico. Apparently, these "go-fast" boats are a common method for cartels trying to get their product into the U.S., so the Coast Guard has developed pretty sophisticated tactics to stop them. In this case, it was the Helicopter Interdiction Tactical Squadron (HITRON), based out of Jacksonville, Florida, that did the heavy lifting. Imagine being a sniper, hanging out the side of a chopper, taking aim at a speeding boat's engine. Talk about pressure!

And thankfully, we get to see some of this in action. Fox News released video footage of the takedown, and it's pretty intense. You can see the sniper carefully lining up the shot and then *bam*, engine disabled. From there, a boarding party can move in and secure the vessel and its… cargo.

This particular bust is part of Operation Pacific Viper, a joint effort between the Coast Guard and the Navy. It's been running since August and is intended to really put the squeeze on drug-trafficking cartels operating in Latin America. And it seems to be working. Back in October, they were already reporting seizures of around 100,000 pounds of cocaine – that's a *lot* of blow. Seriously.

The numbers are really staggering, and frankly, a bit alarming. The Coast Guard estimated this 20,000-pound haul alone represents over 7.5 million potentially lethal doses. Think about that for a second. It really puts the scale of the drug problem into perspective. Even crazier, just last November, they announced they'd seized nearly 510,000 pounds of cocaine in fiscal year 2025. That's a new record, and more than triple their usual average. They estimate that amount represents 193 million potential fatal doses. That's "enough to jeopardize more than half the U.S. population," according to officials. Yikes.

Look, I'm no expert, but these numbers suggest the Coast Guard is doing a hell of a job. That said, it is also clear the drug cartels are still a significant and deadly threat, and we need to be serious about addressing this problem.
