USA's World Cup Draw: Winners, Losers & a SHOCKING Twist!
Sports 07 December 2025

Alright folks, the 2026 World Cup draw is done, and as always, there are winners, losers, and those somewhere in between nervously checking flight prices. Could the USMNT have asked for a better draw? Probably not. Is France already sweating in what looks like a Group of Death? Absolutely. Let's dive into the biggest takeaways from Friday's event.

USA's World Cup Draw: Winners, Losers & a SHOCKING...

The big boys are scattered, Argentina drawing Austria, Algeria, and Jordan – a pretty comfortable path for Messi and Co. England gets Croatia (a familiar foe), plus Panama and Ghana. Not too shabby for the Three Lions. But it's the co-hosts we're really interested in, and the US, Mexico, and Canada all landed in relatively favorable groups. Canada might be side-eyeing Italy's potential play-off route, but overall, a decent outcome for the North American contingent.

Let's talk winners, and honestly, the USA has to be near the top of that list. Remember all the early grumbling about Mauricio Pochettino? The questions about Christian Pulisic's role? Well, a recent five-game unbeaten streak, capped by that impressive 5-1 victory over Uruguay (even without some key players), seems to have quieted the critics. Suddenly, a quarter-final appearance – something we haven't seen since 2002 – feels genuinely achievable. If Pochettino can keep this momentum going, the Stars and Stripes could be making some serious noise.

France, on the other hand, might be feeling a bit queasy. Drawing Norway from Pot Three? Ouch. That means they're in for a real dogfight for the top spot in Group I, and it's not just about figuring out how to contain Erling Haaland. They're also sharing a pool with Senegal, who, lest we forget, dismantled England in a friendly earlier this year. And who could forget Senegal's shock win over France in the opening game of the 2002 World Cup? Another upset could leave Les Bleus staring at an early exit. They need to bring their A-game from the get-go.

Belgium’s qualification wasn't exactly inspiring, and Jeremy Doku himself admitted their performances were lacking. Still, Rudi Garcia’s squad is loaded with talent and experience. They should, *should*, navigate a group featuring Iran, Egypt, and New Zealand. Realistically, only Egypt poses a significant threat to their dominance. It's time for Belgium to prove they are still among the world's elite.

And then there's Scotland. Last time they made the World Cup was 1998, and they drew Brazil, Morocco, and Norway. History repeats itself (sort of): they’ve avoided Norway this time around, but facing Brazil and Morocco again suggests it could be another tough road to the round of 32. Brazil might not be the invincible force they once were, but they're still Brazil, and they're still five-time champions. Good luck, Scotland. You'll need it.
