Animated Oscar SHOCKER! Can 'Zootopia 2' Beat Dark Horse 'KPop Demon Hunters'?
Movies & TV Series 06 December 2025

The animated film race is shaping up to be a fascinating one this year, with some expected heavy hitters vying for the coveted Best Animated Feature Oscar. But after *Flow*'s surprising victory last year, all bets are, frankly, a little less certain. Remember *Flow*? That beautiful, dialogue-free film about a cat navigating a post-apocalyptic world? It took home the gold despite stiff competition, really proving that animation is so much more than just kids' stuff.

Animated Oscar SHOCKER! Can 'Zootopia 2' Beat Dark...

This year, two films seem to be leading the pack, at least in terms of buzz. There’s *KPop Demon Hunters*, which has absolutely exploded in popularity. This isn’t just a flash in the pan either; it actually dethroned *Flow* as Netflix's most-watched original animated film in record time. Now, popularity doesn’t always translate to Oscar glory, but the undeniable K-pop wave and Korean culture boom are definitely giving this film a huge advantage. The fanbase is massive and passionate, and that can't be ignored. It's really tapped into something special.

Then, of course, we have Pixar’s *Elio*. You can't count out Pixar, ever. They are always pushing the boundaries of animation, and *Elio* is no exception. The film introduces us to the Communiverse, a new space setting, using cutting-edge lighting and virtual lenses to capture the scenes. *Elio* didn't exactly light up the box office, but the reviews have been generally positive, and let's be honest, most original Pixar films snag an Oscar nomination. The innovation alone gives it a serious edge.

But hold on, there's another major contender: *Zootopia 2*. Honestly, *Zootopia 2* had "Oscar frontrunner" practically stamped on it before it even premiered. The hype is real, and Disney knows how to build anticipation. The early release of Shakira's new single, "Zoo," (co-written with Ed Sheeran and Blake Slatkin, no less!) with its accompanying music video, is a perfect example of their marketing genius. And let's not forget that Shakira, who voiced Gazelle in the first film and penned the hit "Try Everything", is back. That's some serious star power bolstering this sequel.

So, who will take home the Oscar? It’s anyone’s guess. Will *KPop Demon Hunters* ride the Hallyu wave to victory? Can *Elio*'s innovative animation techniques wow the Academy? Or will *Zootopia 2*'s established fanbase and star power secure the win? And, more importantly, could we see another *Flow*-like surprise steal the show? That's the beauty of the Oscars; you just never know. One thing’s for sure, this is going to be an exciting race to watch!
