Fighting game fans, rejoice! After years of anticipation – remember Project L, anyone? – Riot Games has finally pinned down a release window for their upcoming fighter, 2XKO. And it's not just a PC affair anymore. Mark your calendars, console warriors, because it's hitting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in January 2026!
2XKO Console Release Date REVEALED! What Gamers Ne...
For those who haven't been following the development saga, 2XKO has been brewing behind the scenes since Riot acquired Radiant Entertainment back in 2016. Radiant, you might recall, were the masterminds behind the promising (and sadly, ultimately defunct) fighting game, Rising Thunder. So, yeah, this has been a long time coming.
While PC players have been getting their hands dirty with early access since last October, the console release is timed perfectly with the launch of Season 1. Think of it as a fresh start for everyone, no matter your platform of choice. Riot promises a brand new champion to learn, and an expanded progression system that should keep you hooked. I personally am eager to see the new character's abilities and impact on the meta.
Now, about that early access head start on PC. Don't worry, console players won't be left in the dust. Riot is implementing a "catch-up mechanic" to make sure you can snag all those sweet rewards – champions, skins, mastery goodies – that PC players have been grinding for. It’s a smart move to level the playing field, and keep the initial player base engaged.
Season 1 also brings with it a special cosmetic: the "Frame Perfect" skin. This sounds like it's geared towards the competitive crowd, and here's the best part: Riot is donating a portion of the proceeds from this skin directly to tournament organizers. That's fantastic news! It means more support for prize pools, better production quality for events, and ultimately, a healthier and more vibrant competitive scene. It's a win-win.
Speaking of competitive scenes, Riot is pulling out all the stops with the 2026 Competitive Series. They're partnering with tournament organizers worldwide to create a massive ecosystem, featuring 20 official Riot events, including five major tournaments. The inaugural event is already scheduled for January 29th, so prepare for some intense action right off the bat! The console launch in January really does feel like the kickoff to something big for 2XKO. And I, for one, am excited to see how it all unfolds.
