Alright, Fallout fans, buckle up! It seems like the rumors were true: New Vegas is officially getting some major love in Season 2 of the Prime Video Fallout series. And in a move that's got the gaming world buzzing, Bethesda's own Todd Howard brought in the folks from Obsidian Entertainment, the brilliant minds behind Fallout: New Vegas, for a sneak peek at the set. Talk about a power move acknowledging the masterpiece Obsidian created!
Obsidian Visits Fallout Set! Will New Vegas Influe...
Howard, speaking to PC Gamer, made it clear just how much respect he has for Obsidian. "Huge respect to the folks at Obsidian," he said, adding that he’d “had them out to the set to see this." He also noted their impressive year, likely referencing the upcoming releases of Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 in 2025 – Obsidian is clearly on a roll.
For those not completely steeped in Fallout lore, Bethesda Game Studios (helmed by Howard) gave us Fallout 3 and 4. But sandwiched in between those titles and the epic Skyrim was Fallout: New Vegas, developed by Obsidian. And while all Fallout games have their merits, New Vegas, with its intricate story, morally gray choices, and unforgettable characters, cemented itself as a fan-favorite, arguably the best in the series. No pressure, Season 2!
The upcoming season is explicitly drawing inspiration from the 2010 RPG, which explains the Obsidian visit. It makes perfect sense. Who better to consult with than the creators themselves? It's like bringing in a master chef to consult on your new restaurant that's serving their signature dish. Smart move.
Of course, this has reignited the burning question on every New Vegas fan's mind: could this be hinting at a potential sequel from Obsidian? Speculation's been swirling for years, though previously debunked. John Gonzalez, a key writer on the original, did rejoin Obsidian earlier this year, but explicitly stated he wasn't working on a New Vegas sequel. Then there's Tim Cain, the OG Fallout creator, now back at Obsidian as well. He’s playing coy, saying, "Don't bother guessing--you're not going to guess right" about his current project. Tease!
Mark your calendars, folks! Fallout Season 2 is dropping on December 17th. Prime Video is switching things up this season, opting for a weekly release schedule instead of dropping all episodes at once, like they did with Season 1. A bit of a bummer for binge-watchers, but it will definitely keep the suspense alive.
And for those who need a refresher (or haven't yet experienced the post-apocalyptic glory), Fallout Season 1 is currently available to watch for free… with some caveats. You know how it goes. Time to dive back into the wasteland!
