Another delay has hit the highly anticipated Path of Exile 2, folks. Grinding Gear Games (GGG) just announced that the full, 1.0 release of the action RPG is going to take a bit longer than initially hoped. Now, anyone familiar with game development knows delays are practically part of the process, but it's always a bit of a sting when it's a game you're genuinely looking forward to. Especially when you're already playing the Early Access version!
Path of Exile 2 Delayed AGAIN?! Could Slip to 2027...
Game director Jonathan Rogers had previously floated a potential March 2026 release window. It seemed ambitious, even then. But in a recent interview, Rogers walked that back, tempering expectations. "I'm fairly confident that we won't be out of 2026," he said, which, hey, silver lining, right? At least they're (probably) not pushing it into 2027! He added the all-important caveat: "but as I said, I never want to really completely promise anything. But I don't think it'll end up being March; we'll have to see." Translation: development is hard.
So, what's holding things up? Well, according to GGG, there are three main roadblocks: completing the campaign, implementing balance changes (because no one wants a broken game at launch!), and, perhaps most importantly, finalizing the endgame content. Let’s face it, the endgame is what keeps players hooked long after the credits roll. Path of Exile 2 currently only has four of its planned six campaign acts available. The fourth act, for those keeping track, only just dropped in August. That's still a significant chunk of content to get through.
Think about it logically. With two acts still in the pipeline, even if they magically appeared in the next couple of quarterly updates, you still need time to *test* them. That's where things get sticky. Assuming a spring 2026 release for one act and summer for the other – that puts a realistic earliest release window sometime in the autumn of 2026. And that's assuming no major snags along the way. As someone who's been following game development for years, I can tell you – snags *always* happen.
However, it's not all doom and gloom. The upcoming autumn update, dropping on December 12th, is set to introduce the new Druid class – always exciting. There's also a brand-new league to dive into, and, critically, significant performance improvements are promised across all platforms, especially for those playing on consoles. This is crucial because a smooth gameplay experience is paramount, no matter how good the content is. Let's just hope this pushes us closer to the 1.0 release date. We can keep our fingers crossed, right?
