This high-pressure system is essentially acting as a shield, blocking the usual winter storms and allowing that lovely warm air to dominate. The most noticeable effect, according to Meteored, will be a general rise in both daytime and nighttime temperatures – a welcome change after some pretty chilly weather recently.

But before you pack away your winter coat completely, there's a bit of a catch. While some areas are basking in sunshine, others are in for some rain. That warm, moist Atlantic air mass is also bringing showers along for the ride.
