Hold on to your hats, folks, because the automotive world is about to get a serious jolt of excitement. Remember the Lexus LFA? The screaming V10-powered supercar that captured our imaginations and then vanished almost as quickly as it arrived? Well, it's back. Sort of.
Lexus LFA Returns?! Legend Reborn, But at What Cos...
Lexus has officially announced that the LFA is making a comeback, and this isn't just some rumor whispered in the back corners of a car show. They're serious. Of course, like any good sequel, there's a twist. While many of us have been dreaming of a V10-powered reincarnation, Lexus is taking a different, decidedly more modern, route: electric.
Yes, you read that right. The new LFA, at least in its conceptual form right now, is going to be an EV. This may be a heartbreaker for the purists who relished the LFA's screaming engine note, but let's be honest, the writing's been on the wall for a while. Electrification is the future, and Lexus, like many other manufacturers, is embracing it. But it's still a bit sad for us, isn't it? That glorious V10… gone. I still remember the first time I heard one in person – goosebumps, I tell you!
What do we know for sure? The LFA concept shares its aluminum chassis with the Toyota GR GT, which is interesting because that platform is designed to accommodate both internal combustion and electric powertrains. The GR GT, as we know, is slated to use a V8. This suggests Lexus is keeping its options open or, perhaps more realistically, that the LFA's chassis will be incredibly versatile.
Visually, the LFA concept borrows heavily from the Lexus Sport Concept. It's a low-slung, wide beast with a wheelbase that hints at exceptional handling. Dimensions come in at 4,690 mm long, 2,040 mm wide, with a 2,725 mm wheelbase. It's aggressive, it's futuristic, and it definitely screams "supercar."
The big questions, of course, are: what will the final production version look like, what kind of battery technology will it employ, and when will we finally be able to get our hands on one? Lexus is keeping tight-lipped for now, but this concept is a clear indication of their intentions. While the loss of the V10 stings, the prospect of a cutting-edge, electric LFA is definitely something to be excited about. Let's just hope they can capture the magic of the original, even without that iconic engine.
