Hold on to your wigs, culture vultures! The dynamic duo behind the hilarious and endlessly quotable "Las Culturistas" podcast, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, are taking their comedic genius to the big screen. Deadline broke the news that Yang and Rogers have officially inked a deal with Searchlight Pictures to co-write and co-star in a brand-new comedy. The project is still shrouded in secrecy (no title yet, folks!), but the anticipation is already palpable.
Bowen Yang & Matt Rogers: Comedy Gold Incoming?! G...
This collaboration feels like a natural progression for Yang and Rogers, especially considering their previous success with Searchlight on the critically acclaimed queer rom-com "Fire Island," which landed on Hulu in 2022. That movie was a breath of fresh air, and honestly, it showcased their comedic chemistry perfectly. Re-teaming with Searchlight just makes sense.
The production team is equally impressive. Olivia Gerke and Oly Obst of 3 Arts Entertainment are on board to produce, with PJ Vogt and Sruthi Pinnamaneni serving as co-producers. Searchlight's Richard Ruiz and Daniel Yu will oversee the project, reporting to DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas. That's a lot of talent in one room, so you know they're serious about this!
For those unfamiliar (and if you ARE unfamiliar, what are you even doing with your life?!), "Las Culturistas" has become a cultural phenomenon. The podcast has snagged the Podcast of the Year award at the iHeart Radio Podcast Awards not once, but twice (2023 and 2025). And Time magazine even recognized it as one of the 100 Best Podcasts of All Time. Talk about accolades! This year also marked the debut of the "Las Culturistas Culture Awards" on Bravo, recently renewed for another season and also available for streaming on Peacock. The awards show was outrageous and funny, so a move to the big screen seems like the next logical step.
Outside of "Las Culturistas," both Yang and Rogers have been busy building impressive resumes. Yang, a five-time Emmy nominee, is a current "Saturday Night Live" cast member and is reprising his role as Pfannee in the upcoming "Wicked: For Good." He's also lending his voice to the animated adaptation of "The Cat in the Hat." Rogers, meanwhile, recently appeared in Netflix’s "No Good Deed" and Aziz Ansari’s "Good Fortune," as well as the new season of "Palm Royale." These guys are *everywhere*! It really is their world, and we're just living in it. This new Searchlight project is just further proof of their rising star power, and frankly, I can't wait to see what they come up with.
UTA brokered the deal, and both Yang and Rogers are represented by UTA, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Schreck Rose Dapello. Vogt & Pinnamaneni are repped by UTA and Jackoway Austen. Details on the plot and release date are still under wraps, but you can bet I'll be refreshing Deadline every five minutes until we get more information. Stay tuned, culturistas!
