Okay, folks, here's one that's sure to get the Palahniuk faithful buzzing. Daniel Brown, the name behind the surprisingly gripping *Your Lucky Day*, is officially on board to write and direct a feature film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's *Survivor*. Yes, *that* *Survivor*, the darkly funny, deeply unsettling novel from the mind that gave us *Fight Club*. I've always felt *Survivor* was ripe for a visual interpretation, and Brown's previous work suggests he's got the right sensibility to pull it off.
'Survivor' Movie?! Palahniuk Fans Stunned By Direc...
The cameras are set to start rolling in Auckland, New Zealand, sometime in early 2026. That's a bit of a wait, I know, but good things often take time, right? The story, for those who haven't had the pleasure (or the existential dread), follows Tender Branson. He's the last, lonely survivor of a weirdly devout religious cult, and the narrative basically chronicles his last few hours on Earth. Think darkly comedic, deeply cynical, and utterly, unforgettably Palahniuk.
Behind the scenes, we've got Ryan Rettig (*Voyage of Time*, *Last Days in the Desert*) and Miles David Romney (*The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd*, the Oscar-nominated *Ninety-Five Senses*) producing for Community Garden and financier V42. Mel Turner and Axel Paton from Auckland's own Ground Control (*Wolf Man*, *Heart Eyes*) are also joining the party, which should give the production a solid local grounding. It's always good to see a project embracing the area where it's being filmed.
For sales, UTA Independent Film Group, along with V42/D Squared Films, will be handling the global distribution. That's a pretty solid team, so expect to see this one making waves on the international scene. It’s also interesting to note the involvement of V42 on both the financing and sales sides – suggesting a high level of belief in the project from the get-go.
Brown's directorial debut, *Your Lucky Day*, starring the late Angus Cloud, hit theaters last November and, honestly, it was a lot better than I expected. It had a raw, almost frantic energy that I think could translate really well to the chaotic world of *Survivor*. He's repped by Navigation Media Group, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman, so he's got a good team behind him too.
Of course, this isn't the first time Palahniuk's work has been adapted. *Fight Club* is a certified classic, and *Choke*… well, *Choke* exists. Palahniuk himself has been busy churning out novels, non-fiction, graphic novels, short stories, even adult coloring books! The guy's a machine. His most recent novel, *Shock Induction*, came out earlier this year. He's represented by Donadio & Olsen, so expect him to be involved in some capacity, at least creatively. I'm genuinely curious to see what Brown does with *Survivor*. This could be something truly special.
