Okay, folks, get ready for a heavy dose of true crime! Versant, the brand-new Comcast-spun-off cable entity, is gearing up to present its strategy to Wall Street today, hot on the heels of Comcast's board giving the official thumbs-up to the separation. But before the suits get their slide decks, one of Versant's networks is already making a splash with its inaugural programming slate. And yeah, it's exactly what you think it is: more true crime.
Snapped Spin-Off SHOCK! Hooters Murders Investigat...
The big news? "Snapped," the network's longest-running, arguably *most* popular original series, is coming back for Seasons 37 and 38. I mean, who isn't at least a little bit fascinated by those dramatic retellings of wives who, shall we say, took matters into their own hands? We're talking about the 700th episode hitting screens next year, which is frankly, a staggering accomplishment in the TV world. You have to admire the staying power.
But wait, there's more! Because in the world of true crime, you can apparently never have too much. They're not just resting on their "Snapped" laurels. We're getting a spinoff! Prepare yourselves for "Snapped: Killer Moms" (working title, but let's be honest, it pretty much says it all). This series promises to dive deep into the murky world of mothers who go to extreme lengths for their kids – whether protecting them or seeking vengeance. I can already see the headlines... and the outrage.
Now, if that wasn't enough to satisfy your craving for the dark side of humanity, Versant is also greenlighting "Hooters Murders: Deadly Shift" (another working title – hopefully they come up with something a little snappier). This two-hour documentary will unpack the horrifying murders of three Hooters waitresses between 2001 and 2010. Think about it: young women, working at a *family* restaurant, becoming targets. It's a chilling premise, and the doc promises to delve into how and why these tragedies occurred. Expectation, a British production company, and Sony's The Intellectual Property Corporation are teaming up for this one. Amy Dallmeyer, who previously worked on "Clarkson's Farm" (a lighter topic, to say the least!) is involved, which is an interesting transition.
"'Snapped' has long been a cornerstone of Oxygen, and we’re thrilled to continue the franchise with two more seasons while expanding its universe with ‘Snapped: Killer Moms.’ Alongside the gripping new documentary ‘Hooters Murders: Deadly Shift,’ these additions underscore our commitment to delivering riveting true-crime stories that keep audiences engaged and coming back for more," said Cori Abraham, SVP, Unscripted Content, Versant. And there you have it, folks. More true crime than you can shake a stick at. Whether that's a good thing or a sign of the times... well, that's a question for another day.
