The Saudi Arabian film industry is about to get a serious shot in the arm. Fresh off directing *Bad Boys For Life*, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are bringing their signature action-packed style to the Middle East with "7 Dogs," a new thriller boasting a $40 million budget (though whispers on set suggest it might balloon to nearly $70 million!). I got an exclusive peek behind the scenes during the tail end of filming, and let me tell you, this isn't your typical indie flick.

What’s particularly striking is the scale. I mean, we're talking about explosions that make Michael Bay blush. Special effects guru Duncan Capp, known for his work on *Batman Begins*, and his team at IFX International Special Effects LLC, apparently used a mind-boggling 170.7 tonnes of TNT equivalent for a single blast. That’s... well, that’s a lot. A second explosion used 405.85 kg of TNT equivalent. For context, that first explosion is said to rival the force of the devastating Beirut blast in 2020. These guys aren’t messing around.

The film itself is shaping up to be a real international affair. Egyptian stars Karim Abdel Aziz and Ahmed Ezz are leading the charge, joined by none other than Monica Bellucci, Salman Khan, and Sanjay Dutt. The plot revolves around Ezz's Interpol officer teaming up with Aziz, who plays a member of a shadowy crime syndicate called "7 Dogs," to stop a dangerous new drug from spreading across the region. Think *Miami Vice* meets *Eastern Promises* with a dash of *Bourne Identity* thrown in for good measure. The story comes from Turki Alalshikh, the head of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority – a guy who also happens to be a major player in the boxing world. Interesting combination, right?

My visit to the Al Athriya palace, north of Riyadh, where they were filming, was fascinating. It's a privately-owned complex rebuilt in the traditional Najdi style. Think imposing castle, sprawling courtyards, and reception rooms decked out with low sofas. It's been used to host foreign dignitaries in the past, and walking through it was like stepping back in time. The walls are adorned with photos of past guests, including King Charles (before he was King), Jimmy Carter, and even Muammar Gaddafi. It’s a surreal mix of old-world grandeur and modern cinematic ambition.

The atmosphere on set was electric, even as temperatures climbed. El Arbi and Fallah were clearly in their element, orchestrating these massive scenes with a contagious energy. "7 Dogs" isn't just a film; it's a statement. It’s a declaration that Saudi Arabia is serious about becoming a major player in the global film industry, and they’re willing to go big to make it happen. I, for one, am eager to see the final result.
