Okay, Xbox fans, time to face the music. While Microsoft seems content to let Banjo-Kazooie gather dust on the shelf (again!), PlayStation players are getting a brand new adventure featuring the beloved bird-and-bear duo. Yes, you read that right. A fan-made, but apparently *incredibly* well-made, Banjo-Kazooie game is now available through Dreams on PS4 and PS5.
Banjo-Kazooie SILENCE! PlayStation Players Score H...
It's called "Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania," and from what I've seen, it's far from your average amateur project. We're talking impressive polish here, folks. Think levels that look like they could have been ripped straight from Rare's own playbook. The trailer alone is enough to get any long-time fan excited, with Banjo jumping, gliding, rolling, and even getting blasted out of cannons. It's the classic Banjo-Kazooie experience, dialed up to eleven.
Seriously, the transformations in this thing look wild. I'm talking Banjo morphing into a hulking rock golem, a swashbuckling pirate with a cutlass, and who knows what else. It’s clear the creator(s) poured a ton of love and attention to detail into replicating that classic Banjo-Kazooie feel, and adding their own creative spin. You can’t help but wonder why Microsoft hasn't tapped into this level of community passion.
Of course, this whole situation highlights the ongoing frustration of Banjo-Kazooie fans. We've been clamoring for a new installment for years, and the response from Xbox has been... well, largely silence. Rare seems firmly focused on Sea of Thieves, which, while successful, leaves a Banjo-shaped hole in many gamers' hearts. Even Phil Spencer acknowledged the demand back in 2023, stating they hadn't touched every franchise fans want them to. His words offered a glimmer of hope that someday "the right team" and "the right opportunity" would appear, but so far, it's remained just that: a glimmer.
Beyond their brief (but awesome) appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Banjo and Kazooie have been largely MIA. Thankfully, we've had Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor developed by many of the original Banjo-Kazooie team members, to tide us over. It even got a remastered re-release just last October, “Yooka-Laylee: Replayee”. But honestly, nothing quite scratches that Banjo itch like... well, Banjo. So, for now, PlayStation owners get to bask in the glory of Mumbomania. Maybe, just maybe, its success will finally kickstart some action on the Xbox side. One can dream, right?
