Citroën's SHOCK 2026 Plan REVEALED! What Will It Change?

Citroën is gearing up for what looks to be a pretty monumental 2026. With deliveries of the new C5 Aircross and the refreshed Ami already underway, the French automaker is clearly looking to capitalize on these launches. It's no secret that Citroën has faced its share of challenges recently, but they seem determined to accelerate their progress, and 2026 appears to be a pivotal year in that effort. Think of it as a bit of a reboot for some of their core models.

The big news, of course, is the updated C5 Aircross. We're talking hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions hitting the market in 2026. And if that wasn't enough, they're even planning a range-extender variant later in the year. Talk about covering all the bases! But it's not just the C5 Aircross getting some love. The ever-popular Ami is also slated for a redesign in 2026. It seems like Citroën is really focusing on refreshing their lineup from top to bottom.

As Citroën preps for this crucial year – including their entry into the Formula E championship, which I'm personally quite excited about – CEO Xavier Chardon, who took the reins last spring, is set to outline the brand's future strategy next month. I'm eager to see exactly what he has in store for us. The new C5 Aircross, which they unveiled back in April, is expected to arrive in Turkey by 2026, a key market for them. The C5, a real mainstay of Citroën's offerings, is hoping to build on the success of its first generation, which debuted back in 2018. Sharing its platform with the Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland, the new model is getting a bit of a growth spurt, adding 15 cm in length while maintaining the same width and height. That should translate into a little more legroom for passengers, always a good thing.

One notable shift is the powertrain options. They've completely done away with traditional gasoline and diesel engines for the new C5 Aircross. Instead, you'll find mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, alongside the fully electric variant. Later in 2026, they are planning on releasing a higher-performance model with a larger battery, boosting output to 230 hp from the original 210 hp. It's certainly a sign of the times. Making the short list for the 2026 Car of the Year award, the new Citroën C5 Aircross is being manufactured at the Stellantis plant in Rennes.

Don't forget about the Ami, that cute little EV that's been a huge hit with young Europeans in urban areas. Since its launch in 2020, it's been providing mobility for those 14 and older (depending on the local regulations, of course). While retaining its fundamental engineering, the Ami is getting a more modern design refresh. The product range will also be expanded with a Buggy version inspired by the Ami Buggy Vision concept. In 2026, a Dark Side version, retaining the same motor but featuring black accents, will also be introduced. It's cool to see they're not just sitting on their laurels and are continuously iterating on this unique vehicle.

Looking further ahead, following the facelift of the C3 last year and the arrival of the second-generation C5 Aircross, the C4 is next in line for an update. Since the C4 is still relatively fresh, we shouldn't expect the refreshed version to be available to customers until 2027. But, we could see a sneak peek of the new design as early as the end of 2026. It's possible they'll incorporate some of the design cues from the Oli concept, which was presented shortly before the Paris Motor Show back in September 2022. Exciting times ahead for Citroën, and the auto industry as a whole.
