NFL Thanksgiving SHOCKER! Viewership Records SMASHED... What's Next?!
Movies & TV Series 03 December 2025

Thanksgiving wasn't just about turkey and family this year; it was apparently about football too! The NFL absolutely devoured the ratings on Thanksgiving Day, serving up viewership numbers that would make even the most seasoned TV executive’s jaw drop. We're talking record-breaking, history-making numbers, folks. Forget pumpkin pie; America apparently wanted touchdowns and tackles.

NFL Thanksgiving SHOCKER! Viewership Records SMASH...

The Dallas Cowboys' nail-biting victory over the Kansas City Chiefs wasn't just a win on the field; it was a monumental win for CBS and the NFL. A whopping 57.2 million viewers tuned in, making it the most-watched regular season NFL game *ever*. I mean, think about that for a second. Ever! It blows away the previous Thanksgiving record of 42.1 million viewers, which, ironically, was set just last year during the Bears-Lions game. A nearly 27% jump year-over-year? That's insane growth in a world where everyone’s supposedly cutting the cord.

And it gets better (or worse, depending on how you feel about the dominance of the NFL). Viewership peaked at a mind-boggling 61.3 million during those tense final moments. That's basically the population of several small countries glued to their screens! To put it in perspective, that's rivaling the viewership of the AFC Championship game back in January. It seems America truly does love its football, especially when combined with a day of stuffing and gravy.

Interestingly, the Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions game earlier in the day also shattered records... briefly. It pulled in a respectable 47.7 million viewers, which would have been the Thanksgiving Day champion any other year. But alas, the Cowboys and Chiefs had other plans. Still, a solid showing for two teams with dedicated fan bases.

Even the primetime game, the Cincinnati Bengals versus the Baltimore Ravens, held its own with 28.4 million viewers. While it didn’t reach the stratospheric heights of the earlier games, it still represented a 7% increase compared to last year's primetime offering. So, across the board, Thanksgiving was a huge win for the league.

The NFL also reported that digital streaming was through the roof, with an average minute audience of 2.2 million. That's a 58% increase compared to the previous year. It's clear that more and more people are choosing to stream the games on their phones, tablets, and smart TVs, which makes sense in our increasingly digital world. So, whether you were watching on your couch with your family or sneaking a peek on your phone while pretending to listen to your aunt's stories, the NFL had you covered. Thanksgiving truly became the NFL's holiday this year.
