FF7 Voice Actors Face 'Smut' Abuse! Aerith Star's SHOCKING Plea!

It seems like even the flower girl isn't immune to the darker corners of the internet. Briana White, the voice behind the beloved Aerith Gainsborough in the Final Fantasy 7 series, has publicly requested that fans stop tagging voice actors in sexually explicit fan-made content featuring their characters. And frankly, it's a request that's long overdue.

FF7 Voice Actors Face 'Smut' Abuse! Aerith Star's ...

White's statement comes on the heels of a similar incident involving Rei Ami, an actress from KPop: Demon Hunters, who stumbled upon some rather... *ahem*... adult fanfiction centered around her character, Zoey. White responded to the situation, expressing her disappointment that "a few creeps ruin it for everyone." She's right. A few bad apples really can spoil the whole bunch.

“It's really a shame when VAs want to interact with the people who love the characters on social media but just a few creeps ruin it for everyone," White wrote in a statement. She went on to note that despite actively trying to avoid such content, she's constantly bombarded with various forms of fan-made Final Fantasy 7 material. Which, let's be honest, in the age of algorithms, is practically unavoidable. It's a testament to the sheer size and dedication of the Final Fantasy 7 fanbase – and the unfortunate downside of that level of engagement.

For those unfamiliar, White debuted as Aerith in the critically acclaimed 2020 Final Fantasy 7 Remake and has since reprised the role in both Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion and the recently released Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. She's even lent her voice to Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. So, yeah, she's pretty heavily associated with the franchise.

“I'm so associated with FF7 that it gets shown to me every single day anyway," White explained, highlighting the constant influx of fan content she encounters. She also emphasized the importance of consent, adding, "As someone said earlier, it is a matter of consent. And it can be almost impossible to know what exactly is acceptable or not to an individual just from knowing their social media persona." This is a crucial point. Just because someone portrays a character doesn't mean they've given carte blanche for fans to create and share explicit content featuring that character, and definitely not to tag them in it.

White is set to return for the third and final installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, and I, for one, am looking forward to seeing her continue to breathe life into Aerith. Hopefully, with a little less unwanted "fan" attention. Let's all try to be a little more respectful, folks. These are real people, not just pixels on a screen.
