Ford Mustang CRUSHES EVs! What's Driving the SHOCKING Sales Surge?
Automotive 03 December 2025

Ford's got a bit of a puzzle on its hands. While the whole industry is buzzing about the electric future, their EV sales are…well, let's just say they're not exactly setting the world on fire. Turns out, that iconic American muscle car, the Mustang, is practically carrying the torch for Ford right now, at least in terms of sales momentum. It's almost a case of "back to the future," isn't it?

Ford Mustang CRUSHES EVs! What's Driving the SHOCK...

The numbers don't lie. November was a particularly stark illustration of this trend. While the Mustang managed to gallop off dealership lots to the tune of 4,207 units, Ford's entire EV lineup – that includes the Mustang Mach-E, the soon-to-be-gone F-150 Lightning, and the E-Transit – barely squeaked by with 4,247 sales. That's a pretty close call, and not one Ford probably wants to see repeated. It's especially concerning considering all the investment and hype surrounding their electric push.

Now, to be fair, when you look at the whole year, Ford's EV family *has* outsold the Mustang. We're talking about roughly 80,000 EVs versus 40,000 Mustangs so far in 2023. But that November surge for the Mustang is definitely closing the gap, and it highlights a deeper issue: demand for Ford's EVs seems to be cooling off. What's even more interesting is that year-to-date sales of the Mustang are still down from last year, so this surge in the last month is an anomaly.

The electric commercial vehicle sector is really where Ford's feeling the pinch. Sales of their electric vans plummeted a staggering 82% compared to last November. The F-150 Lightning also took a hit, down 72% from the previous year. Ouch. This is especially concerning considering the big push for electric work vehicles and the potential for fleet sales. This really hurts the EV platform.

It's not all doom and gloom though. Ford's got some other models that are still performing well. The Maverick, for instance, is still a hot ticket, jumping significantly in sales. The Ranger is also showing solid growth. And overall, the company's managed a year-to-date sales increase of over 6%. So, it's not like Ford is collapsing, but they definitely need to figure out how to reignite that electric spark. Maybe it's time to rethink their EV strategy a bit? It’s a tough market, and consumer preferences are shifting constantly.
