Metroid Fans Stunned! Samus Voice REPLACED for Prime 4?!
Gaming News 03 December 2025

Well, folks, the news is out, and it's a bit of a shake-up for Metroid fans. Samus Aran, the iconic bounty hunter, will be sporting a new voice in the upcoming Metroid Prime 4. It seems Nintendo has decided to go in a different direction, parting ways with Jennifer Hale, the talented voice actress who previously voiced Samus’ vocalizations in the original Metroid Prime trilogy.

Hale, of course, is a legend in the voice acting world, known for her amazing work as Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series. While Samus's role wasn't exactly dialogue-heavy – more grunts, cries, and efforts, really – Hale’s contribution was definitely memorable. Vanessa Marshall helped too, but still, for many of us, Hale *was* Samus in those games.

So, who's stepping into the power suit this time around? Nintendo Life reports that Erin Yvette is now credited as the voice of Samus in Metroid Prime 4. Yvette has a solid resume herself, having played characters like Snow White in The Wolf Among Us, Alex in Oxenfree, and Blonde Blazer in Dispatch. It's going to be interesting to hear her take on the character, especially given the legacy of Hale's work.

Interestingly, this isn't the only voice acting change happening over at Nintendo lately. Remember Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario and Luigi for, like, forever? Yeah, he's been replaced. And Samantha Kelly, the beloved voice of Princess Peach and Toad, also discovered her 18-year tenure with the Super Mario characters had ended without her knowledge. Even Takashi Nagasako, who voiced Donkey Kong for 21 years, has been replaced. It feels like a full refresh for Nintendo.

IGN actually spoke with Jennifer Hale recently about her past work as Samus. She mentioned that while her work was mostly limited to those iconic grunts, she had a fully formed voice in her head for the character. That's the mark of a true professional, really. And when asked about Mass Effect, Hale didn't hide her enthusiasm about returning for the next chapter. "I would be there before they finish the sentence" if BioWare got in touch. Honestly, who wouldn't want her back?

So, Metroid Prime 4… how is it? Well, according to IGN's review (score of 8/10), "Not all of Prime 4’s additions work, but this is still an excellent comeback." That's pretty high praise, all things considered. While the voice change might be a bit jarring for some long-time fans, it sounds like Nintendo has delivered a solid game. Looks like we'll all have to fire up our consoles and see what Erin Yvette brings to the role of Samus Aran for ourselves. Should be...interesting!
