Transform Your Reading Life: Unlock the Romance Within (It's Easier Than You Think!)

Have you ever stopped to consider how you could *romanticize* your reading life? What would that even *look* like for you? It's a question I've been pondering a lot lately, and I think the answer might just be the key to reigniting your love of books.

Transform Your Reading Life: Unlock the Romance Wi...

My name is Erica Ezeifedi, and I'm an Associate Editor – and a self-confessed bookworm. I'm a Nashville, TN transplant who has settled in the Northeast, and when I'm not writing, I'm often found searching for my next great read or planning my next snack. (Priorities, right?) You can find me on Twitter at @Erica_Eze_.

A few years back, I more or less stumbled into a truly lovely reading routine completely by accident. It all started one summer weekend when my car was in the shop. The weather was amazing, perfect for a walk. So, I decided to stroll down to the local library. I ended up spending the entire day there, just browsing and getting lost in graphic novels. When I had no other weekend plans, this walk-and-read became a little ritual.

And honestly, the whole process was just a delight from start to finish. That walk to the library forced me to slow down and actually *see* my neighborhood, noticing things I usually missed from behind the wheel. It made me feel so much more connected to where I lived. Plus, making a point of reading whatever my nearest library branch had on offer meant I was sifting through a mix of new releases and older books, many of which I'd never even *heard* of before. Talk about expanding my horizons!

Then there was the peace and quiet of the library itself. Aside from the occasional (and kind of adorable) bursts of noise from the children's section, and someone needing help with the computers, the library was full of people but still beautifully quiet. I really noticed how relaxed I felt after each of those day-long reading sessions. It became a fantastic way to shake myself out of my usual routine with something that was calming, meditative, and, best of all, mostly free.

While I don't hit up the library every weekend anymore, I've definitely found other ways to keep that spark alive and give my reading life a little boost. And that’s really what I mean by "romanticizing my reading life."

Lately, I’ve been seeing a ton of videos online about people "romanticizing" different parts of their lives. Everything from studying to writing, even just daily routines, is getting a makeover. But whatever the focus, the core idea is always the same: to find a way to appreciate something that might otherwise feel kind of ordinary.

And as I've found, applying this mindset to reading can be incredibly rewarding. For me, it's become almost meditative. It's helped me practice a kind of mindfulness, to be more intentional, and to be way more appreciative of… well, of just diving into a good book. I’ll talk more about the specific ways I've romanticized my reading in a future article. Stay tuned!
