Current Affairs 03 December 2025

Las Vegas is about to get a serious dose of tech from South Korea, folks. LG's various affiliates are prepping to descend upon CES 2026 with a suite of AI-powered innovations aimed at redefining both our homes and how we get around. And honestly, after seeing some of the early previews, I'm genuinely intrigued.

LG affiliates to highlight AI-powered home, drivin...

LG Innotek, in particular, is making a big splash in the automotive sector. Forget just showing off components; they're building full-scale mock-ups of autonomous vehicles and EVs right on the show floor. Visitors will be able to hop in and experience the tech firsthand – a far cry from simply staring at circuit boards under glass. It's a smart move; experiential demos often leave a much stronger impression. They're planning on showcasing 35 new future mobility solutions, which is a huge number, signaling a significant commitment to this space.

The focus appears to be on what they’re calling AI-defined vehicles (ADVs), catering to the growing global appetite for smarter, safer transportation. LG Innotek seems to be providing comprehensive "turnkey" solutions, integrating both hardware and software. That’s a crucial offering for automakers scrambling to keep up with the rapid pace of innovation in the AI space. This means they can essentially buy a complete package of technology instead of having to painstakingly piece it all together themselves.

The autonomous vehicle solutions are particularly interesting. They're showcasing everything from in-cabin sensor technology, like a clever Under-Display Camera Module and child presence detection (a feature any parent can appreciate, trust me), to external aids like the Active Cleaning Camera Module and Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave Radar. That Ultra-Slim Pixel Lighting Module, already a CES award winner, also sounds promising. These aren't just fancy gadgets; they're critical components for truly reliable self-driving capabilities.

On the EV front, LG Innotek is highlighting motor and power-transmission technologies, including a Wireless Battery Management System and a Battery Link with a new battery junction box capability. These advancements are all about maximizing efficiency and extending the range of electric vehicles, two key factors driving EV adoption. Battery technology is the linchpin of the EV revolution, and it's good to see LG investing heavily in this area.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics is taking a slightly different approach, framing AI as "affectionate intelligence." It's a clever bit of marketing, implying that their products aren't just smart but also intuitive and user-friendly. The goal, it seems, is to seamlessly integrate technology into our lives, making both our homes and public spaces more convenient and connected. It's a vision of technology serving us, not the other way around. LG Innotek CEO Moon Hyuk-soo is certainly confident, stating CES 2026 will "cement the company's leadership in the global future mobility market." We'll see soon enough if the reality matches the ambition, but I'm definitely adding LG's booth to my must-see list at CES.
