Pfeiffer's Holiday Magic! But Can She Save This Plot-Hole Disaster?!

Okay, so "Oh. What. Fun." is the title of this new Amazon Christmas flick, and honestly, I'm torn. It *should* be fun, and it's got Michelle Pfeiffer! What's not to love, right? Well, hold on. While Pfeiffer is, predictably, fantastic, the movie itself stumbles over a plot so riddled with holes, you could drive a sleigh through it. Twice.

Pfeiffer's Holiday Magic! But Can She Save This Pl...

Let's be clear: Michelle Pfeiffer is a national treasure. Seriously, from "The Fabulous Baker Boys" to "French Exit," she elevates everything she's in. And don't even get me started on "Love Field." She was robbed of an Oscar for that performance, plain and simple. Just rewatched it last week – still holds up. So, when I saw her name attached to this, I was cautiously optimistic. Pfeiffer rarely disappoints.

In "Oh. What. Fun.," Pfeiffer brings her usual blend of wit and vulnerability. She plays Claire, a mom who, well, gets left behind. That's where the problems start. The script, penned by director Michael Showalter and Chandler Baker, just doesn't live up to Pfeiffer's potential. It's based on Showalter's short story, and maybe it should have stayed a short story.

Here's the deal – *minor spoiler alert*, though frankly, it's hard to spoil something so… surprising. The family is on their way to their annual Christmas Eve tradition when... they forget Claire. Like, seriously forget her. What follows is a series of increasingly unbelievable choices on Claire's part. She's clearly going through some stuff, but the reaction is…extreme.

This is where things go sideways. Claire, instead of calling a friend or just, you know, chilling at home, decides to drive to Hollywood to appear on the "Zazzy Tims Show" (Eva Longoria kills it in her role, by the way). Apparently, this show has a "Holiday Moms" segment where moms leave their families on Christmas to…compete? The logic is baffling.

So, Claire drives from Texas, endures a flat tire, gets her car towed (resulting in a charming but completely out-of-place motel encounter with Danielle Brooks), and *somehow* manages to arrive at the studio gates on Christmas morning. In time for the live show! You'd think they'd pre-tape something like that. The whole thing feels utterly detached from reality. This isn't just any character; this is Michelle Pfeiffer, and seeing her play someone so obsessed with a cheesy daytime show segment is…odd. I’m still trying to figure out the motivation.

The film tries to say something about the underappreciated role of mothers, but Claire, thankfully, isn’t the stereotypical 1950s housewife. It's just that her actions feel so…unmotivated. "Oh. What. Fun." has moments of genuine warmth and Pfeiffer is always captivating, but ultimately, the plot holes are too big to ignore. It's a shame, because with a tighter script, this could have been a real Christmas classic.
