Well folks, brace yourselves, because the shadows are going to stay dark a little longer. Cyanide Studio just dropped the news: Styx is being delayed. I know, I know – another game pushed back! But before you sharpen your pitchforks, let's hear them out.
Styx: Blades of Greed delayed into 2026, to ensure...
Their upcoming stealth adventure, *Styx: Blades of Greed*, where you get to play as the wonderfully cynical goblin we all know and love (or maybe love to hate!), won't be sneaking onto our PCs and consoles this year after all. The new launch date? February 19th, 2026. That's a ways off, I admit.
The official reason, as always, is "polish." According to the studio's announcement alongside a new release date trailer (which, admittedly, does look pretty slick), they've been "pushing hard" to get the game up to snuff. They’re talking about tightening up the stealth mechanics, refining the combat, and ensuring every environment is dripping with the right atmosphere. I've seen this kind of statement before, and while it *can* be PR fluff, in this case, I'm cautiously optimistic. Cyanide has a decent track record, and *Styx: Shards of Darkness* was surprisingly good.
The devs went on to say that this extra time will allow them to "deliver the best possible version of the experience we've been building." Which, let's be honest, is what we *all* want, right? Nobody wants a rushed, buggy mess. Give me a delayed masterpiece over a broken disappointment any day. Think *Cyberpunk 2077* at launch – nobody wants that again.
Cyanide seems genuinely proud of the progress they've made and are apparently feeling pretty motivated to nail the final stages of development. They even thanked fans for sticking with them, saying that the support "genuinely fuels the team." It's nice to hear that the developers are invested, it gives some hope that the delay is for the right reasons.
For those new to the Styx universe, *Blades of Greed* picks up after the events of *Shards of Darkness*. Don't worry though, the studio promises that you don't need to have played the previous games to enjoy this one. Which is good news, because I can't always remember the plots of all the games I've played. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
So, there you have it. A delay. A bummer, sure, but potentially a good thing in the long run. Let's hope Cyanide uses this extra time wisely and delivers a stealth experience that's truly worthy of our patience. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back and replay *Shards of Darkness* to refresh my memory. Maybe this delay is just a clever marketing ploy to get me to buy the old games again. *They're* definitely getting my money one way or another.
