It's that time of the month again, folks. As Xbox Game Pass giveth, so too must it taketh away. While we're all excited about the new arrivals this December (including the shiny new *Mortal Kombat 1*), a few titles are sadly saying goodbye to the subscription service. Time to clear some space on that SSD, or maybe squeeze in a few last-minute play sessions.
Xbox Game Pass Purge! Mortal Kombat FATALITY...For...
First up, we've got three games heading for the exit on December 15th. The biggest name on the list, undoubtedly, is *Mortal Kombat 11*. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But *Mortal Kombat 1* just arrived!" And you're right. However, *MK11* is a genuinely fantastic fighting game, arguably one of the best in the entire franchise. GameSpot seems to agree, calling it a standout. So, if you haven't had a chance to fatality your way through it, now's the time. Think of it as a changing of the guard, from one excellent entry to another.
Alongside *MK11*, *Still Wakes the Deep*, a chilling horror title set on a creaky, isolated oil rig, is also departing. This one’s all about atmosphere and tension, a real cat-and-mouse game against a terrifying, unseen force. If you enjoy being thoroughly creeped out, give it a whirl before it vanishes. Rounding out the December 15th departures is *Wildfrost*, a roguelite deckbuilder. While it might not be as widely known as the other two, it's got a dedicated fanbase and some seriously addictive gameplay.
Then, as we approach the New Year, two more titles will be leaving on December 31st. Horror fans, prepare yourselves: *Carrion* is getting the boot. This one's a bit of a cult classic – a "reverse horror" Metroidvania where you play as a grotesque, tentacled monster consuming everything in your path. Think John Carpenter’s *The Thing*, but you're the *thing*. It's delightfully disturbing. Finally, for all you virtual soldiers out there, *Hell Let Loose*, the brutally realistic World War II multiplayer shooter, will also be removed. This one's not for the faint of heart; it's a hardcore, team-based experience that demands communication and coordination.
The good news is that Game Pass subscribers can snag any of these departing titles for a 20% discount before they're gone for good. So, if you've fallen in love with *Carrion*'s monstrous rampage or *Hell Let Loose*'s gritty battles, now's your chance to own them outright. And with the ever-expanding Game Pass library, there's always something new to discover. If you're feeling overwhelmed, GameSpot has a handy guide to the best Game Pass titles, so you can find your next obsession. Happy gaming, everyone!
