A 46-year-old hiker had a rather unpleasant Saturday when he took a tumble on the slopes of Montgó mountain, near the notoriously tricky Cova Ampla. The incident triggered a swift response, with emergency services ultimately airlifting him to safety.

The Alicante Provincial Fire Brigade received the call early that afternoon, November 29th. Those mountains can be unforgiving, and a slip can quickly turn into a serious situation. Thankfully, the authorities didn't waste any time. The Alpha 01 rescue helicopter, along with the specialist Mountain Rescue Group (GER), were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Initial reports suggest the hiker suffered a possible arm fracture after losing his footing on some particularly uneven terrain. The GER team, highly trained in mountain rescues, quickly secured him with a harness. A delicate winch operation then hoisted him safely aboard the helicopter. From there, it was a quick flight to the Denia fire station, where a waiting medical team was ready to provide further assistance. The Guardia Civil Mountain Unit also played a supportive role in the rescue, which wrapped up around 5:12 PM.

This latest incident serves as a stark reminder of the dual nature of Montgó. It's a stunningly beautiful place, offering incredible views and challenging hikes, but it also demands respect and preparedness.
