Hero Student's Brave Act: Stopped Rape Attack! What Happens Next Will Shock You!
Current Affairs 02 December 2025

A true hero emerged from Sunderland, England, recently, and his name is Hamza Albar. This 23-year-old Saudi student didn't just stand by – he bravely intervened to stop a horrific attempted rape, earning him accolades from police and the community alike.

Hero Student's Brave Act: Stopped Rape Attack! Wha...

The incident occurred on December 30th, 2024, a date that could have ended tragically if not for Albar's quick thinking and courage. He was walking back from the supermarket when he heard a woman's desperate cries for help. Instead of turning a blind eye, as, sadly, some might do, Albar rushed towards the sound. What he found was Ian Hodson, 42, attacking a woman on Newcastle Road, in the Monkwearmouth area. Hodson had thrown the woman to the ground and was attempting to sexually assault her while trying to silence her.

Now, I’ve covered crime stories for years, and it's often the bystander effect that chills me the most. The idea that people freeze up in the face of danger. But Albar is a shining example of the opposite. He immediately called the police, providing his location, but his phone died. Undeterred, he confronted Hodson directly, shouting at him to stop.

Hodson, naturally, tried to escape. But Albar wasn't letting him get away. He chased Hodson down, and during the struggle, Hodson punched Albar in the face. Even injured, Albar managed to subdue and restrain Hodson until police arrived. He even flagged down a passing car to ensure the police were contacted again. The guy is a machine!

Hodson's reign of terror didn't end there, though. While in custody, he also assaulted a police officer. He was formally charged on New Year’s Day with the attempted rape, the assault on Albar, and the assault on the officer. Justice, thankfully, was swift. Hodson has now been sentenced to nine years in prison. A small price to pay for the trauma he inflicted, but at least he's off the streets.

Northumbria Police and the courts have publicly commended Albar for his extraordinary courage and selfless actions. He truly put himself in harm's way to protect a vulnerable woman. It's stories like these that remind you there are still good people in the world, willing to stand up for what's right, even when it's scary. Hamza Albar, you are a hero.
