Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward isn't pulling any punches after a tough loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. In a game where the Steelers offense sputtered, Heyward's frustration seemed to boil over, specifically with Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Heyward Accuses Allen of Intentional Knee?! Steele...
The Steelers fell to 6-6 with a 26-7 defeat, and while the scoreline tells part of the story, Heyward believes some of Allen's actions warrant a closer look. According to Heyward, Allen admitted to intentionally kneeing him during the game. It's the kind of on-field skirmish that, frankly, often happens amidst the heat of the moment. But the fact Allen allegedly acknowledged it after the play is what's raising eyebrows.
"He even said after, 'I had to do something to get you off of me,'" Heyward explained, detailing his post-play conversation with Allen. Now, I wasn’t on the field, so I can't verify this firsthand. It's Heyward's word against Allen's, and Allen hasn't yet publicly addressed these specific accusations. That being said, Heyward is a respected veteran, not known for making things up.
Allen, for his part, had a solid if not spectacular game, throwing for 123 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also added 38 rushing yards and another score, contributing significantly to the Bills’ victory. The win pushes Buffalo to a comfortable 8-4, solidifying their playoff contention. No doubt Allen was doing everything he could to secure that win, but some might say there's a line you don't cross, even in the competitive arena of the NFL.
Heyward, meanwhile, put in a decent performance himself with eight tackles, two of which were for a loss. But individual efforts can only go so far when the team struggles as a whole. The Steelers offense, in particular, was largely ineffective, failing to generate much momentum throughout the game. Ultimately, it wasn't just Allen's alleged actions that contributed to the loss, but the Steelers' inability to capitalize on opportunities.
This incident certainly adds fuel to the fire in what's already a heated rivalry. It remains to be seen if the NFL will investigate the alleged kneeing incident. Regardless, it's safe to say that when these two teams meet again, there will be no love lost between Heyward and Allen.
