Okay, folks, buckle up because I've stumbled upon a holiday romance that's anything but your typical sugarplum fare. I'll admit, I'm usually a bit of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas romances – they often feel a little…predictable. But this one? This one completely shattered my expectations and had me laughing so hard I almost snorted eggnog out my nose. I'm talking about a gloriously queer, male/male, Halloween-meets-Christmas forbidden romance that's as heartwarming as it is hilarious.
Halloween & Christmas?! This Rom-Com is Leaving Vi...
The story centers around Nicholas “Coal” Claus, and let's just say, Christmas hasn't exactly been his cup of hot cocoa lately. Ever since his mom left, his dad (the current Santa) has turned Christmas into a soulless commercial extravaganza. Coal, bless his heart, tried to inject some genuine Christmas spirit back into the holiday, but it backfired spectacularly, leading to a PR disaster that's still haunting his family.
We find Coal drowning his sorrows at college with his brother Kris and their friend Iris (who, by the way, is royalty from the Easter family – told you this was unique!). Seeking some peace and quiet, Coal spills his guts to a ridiculously handsome stranger in an alley behind a bar. A kiss happens. A *really good* kiss. And then, poof, the stranger vanishes. Fast forward to winter break, and Coal's dad drops a bombshell: a forced marriage between Coal and Iris to smooth things over. Now, Coal and Iris are the best of friends, but romance? Not on the menu. However, political deals have been struck, and Coal's past blunder has left him with zero leverage. The media, of course, is lapping up the "royal wedding" narrative.
But here's where things get *really* interesting. The Halloween royal family catches wind of this arranged marriage and throws a fit. Santa, in a stroke of "generosity," agrees to let their prince compete for Iris's hand. Enter Hex, the Prince of Halloween, reluctantly arriving at the North Pole...and guess who Coal recognizes? That's right, it's the mysterious, unbelievably attractive stranger from the alley! Cue the dramatic music and a whole lot of romantic tension.
Seriously, this book is a riot. It's steamy, it's witty, and Coal and Hex are two of the most endearing (and chaotic) characters I've encountered in a long time. If you're looking for a holiday read that's a little bit different, a little bit naughty, and a whole lot of fun, this is it. Trust me, this Halloween and Christmas mashup romance is a gift that keeps on giving – laughter, swoons, and maybe a few blush-worthy moments. Consider it my early holiday present to you!
