Word on the street in London's theatre scene is buzzing: Arty Froushan, the up-and-coming actor already making waves as Wilson Fisk's menacing right-hand man, Buck Cashman, in Marvel's *Daredevil: Born Again*, just landed a massive role. He's set to embody the notoriously complex and disturbing Patrick Bateman in a highly anticipated revival of the *American Psycho* musical. Yes, you read that right – *musical*.
'Daredevil' Star's SHOCKING Stage Role! You Won't ...
Performances are slated to begin January 22, 2026, at the Almeida Theatre and will run through March 14. That gives him plenty of time to perfect that thousand-yard stare and learn the Huey Lewis and the News discography, I suppose.
The musical, a darkly satirical take on Bret Easton Ellis's iconic novel, boasts a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik. It's a revival of the Almeida's 2014 production, which previously starred Matt Smith (of *Doctor Who* and *The Crown* fame) as the impeccably dressed, investment-banker-by-day, serial-killer-by-night. Let's not forget Benjamin Walker's stint on Broadway in 2016, though that run was sadly short-lived.
"Sympathetic, twisted characters, so in some senses, this role feels, it’s scary to say, a natural fit," Froushan quipped, seemingly aware of the potential for raised eyebrows. He elaborated, "In *Daredevil: Born Again*, I’ve been playing essentially an assassin who’s mildly sociopathic. In *Carnival Row*, I played a sort of entitled, very vengeful, young aristocrat." Okay, so maybe Bateman isn't *that* far a leap after all.
But here's the thing – in person, Froushan comes across as anything *but* tortured. He’s described as charming, outgoing, and possessing a remarkably sunny disposition. The musical aspect, he admits, was initially a slight surprise. "It’s not my first rodeo," he clarified, mentioning his college performances in Sondheim’s *Assassins* and *West Side Story* while studying at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art. "I can hold a tune," he assured, adding, "Clearly, I think Rupert [Goold] obviously wanted to make sure I could do that. I’m definitely an actor who can sing rather than a singer." I'm certainly curious to hear what his version of "This Is Not An Exit" sounds like.
Apparently, his initial audition tape featured a snippet from Duran Duran’s "Ordinary World," a solid '80s choice, fitting the Bateman vibe perfectly. Before landing the role, he was juggling Season 2 of *Daredevil: Born Again* on the East Coast with filming Amazon MGM’s rom-com *The Love Hypothesis* in Montreal. And then, he reunited with Rupert Goold (who's heading to the Old Vic, big news!) while preparing for *The Line of Beauty*. Goold, Froushan recounted, joked that he'll "never escape the ’80s," a sentiment many of us probably share, whether we want to admit it or not.
Prior to all this, Froushan garnered acclaim for his performance in Tom Stoppard’s *Leopoldstadt*, both in the West End and on Broadway, an experience he described as "quite an invigorating and enriching" one. It's safe to say, this guy's got range.
Born in Connecticut, with an Iranian father who designed cooling systems for nuclear power plants (talk about a fascinating backstory!), Froushan moved to London at the tender age of two and grew up in Southfields. It seems London's calling him back to the stage in a major way.
